Shawn Nelson’s father, Skip, served in the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and Vietnam, and his mother, Deborah, served in the Coast Guard. Shawn served 22 years in the Army and his son, Sean, is serving his 7th year in the Air Force.
Shawn was born in Nevada and lived in California, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon while his dad served.
“Caught my first fish in Alaska,” he said. “I was 39 miles away from Mount St. Helen’s when it erupted. Dad spent a good amount of time away at sea. Had to do a lot of activities with Mom because Dad was away. Made great friends everywhere we moved.”
During Shawn’s 22 years in the Army, he visited 30 countries!
