U.S. Marine Hershel “Woody” Williams, the last surviving World War II Medal of Honor recipient, died on 29 June 2022.
“The cause is greater than I” was a motto Woody adopted when asked what motivated him to create the Woody Williams Foundation, a nonprofit organization that serves Gold Star military families.
